Squirrelled away in a salubrious setting, with louche, low-level lighting – oh so flattering – this slick Chinese is perfect for the Eaton hotel, just a stone’s throw from Jordan station. But it’s the food that has regulars and the Michelin inspectors running back for more. An 8-course menu spotlighting autumn crab sees braised pumpkin soup with bird's nest, crab meat and fish maw rubbing shoulders with steamed mud crab with Chinese Yellow wine and chicken oil, as well as braised abalone with crab roe sauce. It’s all executed with precision, with a lovely interplay of flavour and texture.
Other highlights include deep-fried tiger prawn with crispy rice served in an unctuous spicy and sour sauce. Traditional dishes like sweet and sour pork with pineapple are expertly done, too, backed up with first-rate soups and vegetarian dishes. And don’t miss the crispy custard buns and sticky rice pancakes to finish. Weekend and lunchtime dim sum are further reasons to visit – think steamed pork dumplings with fresh scallop or deep-fried taro puffs with assorted seafood.
Deeply bounded up in the neighbourhood, its support of local charities commends it too.
