With its fun and memorable name, Honky Tonks Tavern is the second restaurant from the clever people behind the jovial and crowd-pleasing Shady Acres, just round the corner on fashionable Peel Street. Its stock in trade food offering of pizzas, fried chicken and big American salads washed down with bourbon and tequila cocktails seems to have hit upon a winning formula, judging by the colourful crowd of well-heeled bohos and the delightful up-beat but laid-back, shabby chic ambience. With the solid pedigree of its operators – think experience brought in from Ho Lee Fook, Terrible Baby and the hip PDT bar within The Landmark Mandarin Oriental – this seems certain to be a hit. Nice line in Australian natural wine, too.
